Changing a Future

The response to my last blog was overwhelming to say the least.  Thank you to those families and persons that showed an interest in Cindy's future.  We had many people to send emails saying they wanted to help.  We took the first 3 families that sent emails and let them sponsor Cindy for her private education this year.  We also had a guy that paid for all of her books, uniforms, inscription fee, and school supplies.  To all those that did not get the opportunity to sponsor Cindy, there will be other opportunities in the future to sponsor more children with giving them a better education.  This is going to give Cindy the chance to challenge herself and to make something of herself.  This opportunity for her could change the future for not only her, but her family as well.  If we can continue to sponsor Cindy, and if she continues to do well, she will change the course routine of work for her family.  Most public school systems here are not very good and do not challenge the students.  Most children in our area drop out of school between 4th and 6th grade.  They end up working in the fields, cleaning laundry and homes, or selling food on the side of the streets.  This school she is now being able to attend is one of the highest ranking schools in all of Guatemala.  The kids that finish this private school go onto a University and come out with some stand-up jobs that most others are not even close to being qualified to fulfill.  Thank you to those families that are able to help make a huge difference in the life of this child and her family.  I ask that you all continue to pray for Cindy.  She is 13 and in the 5th grade.  She is the only one in her class that has never had English before.  Her new school is bilingual.  She has half of each day in Spanish and the other half of each day in English.  She is a very intelligent young girl and will do well, but needs your prayers for encouragement.  I feel that if she can get through the first half of the year, she will be on track with the other students.  We will keep everyone posted on her progress through our monthly newsletter.

Sponsorship Opportunity

This young girl's name is Cindy.  She is the youngest of 5 siblings.  She lives with her mom, dad, 3 brothers, and her sister.  She lives in a very poor village and hasn't had much of a chance in school to challenge her potential.  She is very intelligent, but did not attend school last year.  The school she goes to is a poor, public school that doesn't have much to offer.  Kim and I would like to send Cindy to the private school that our kids are going to.  She will be challenged more and have a chance to make something of herself with a good career after graduating from this higher standard school.  Cindy is 13 years old and will be going into the 5th grade.  We need your help.  We are looking for a couple of Sunday school classes or a couple of families that would commit to sponsoring Cindy for this entire school year (January through October).  The total cost per month is $100.  Kim and I will pay for her school uniforms and all books and school supplies.  We are thinking that if two Sunday school classes or two families could commit to $50 per month, this young girl will make it in life and not fall into the same routine as her family.  If your Sunday school class or your family are interested in sponsoring Cindy email me directly at dkblopez@gmail.com.  School starts January 16th and we don't want to miss the opportunity to help this girl.

He is my KING!

I haven't put out a blog in quite some time.  Many things have happened since my last update.

My close friend Manuel got married the end of October.

We finished the construction of the Perez home the end of October.  There are still some minor things that need completed, but it is mainly finished and the family has moved in.

We spent the month of November with family and friends in Alabama.  I preached at 10 different churches, Kim and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary, we all had our doctors and dentists visits, and we spent Thanksgiving with family.  Fairview Church had an auction for our Feeding Center which raised $13,750 to fund this project for an entire year.

We held our first youth camp in Guatemala the first week in December.

We had a week long VBS at our church the 2nd week in December.

We were blessed to be able to purchase a piece of new land for the church.

Christmas came and went.

We had a wonderful, blessed week with Fairview Missions Team.

Started the construction of a house for Norma and her 5 children.

We had a dedication service for the Feeding Center which will open January 9th to feed children every day.  We continued youth group every Friday night, made our visits to Tabitha House and Esteban House before Christmas break, and much more.  God has truly blessed our family and the ministry here in Guatemala.  He is my KING!
